Whew...It is August

This past July was filled with workshops, art shows (one juried for the Transition-Reno exhibition at Reno City Hall July 9, 2010) and art construction; along with great times with friends.
I am pleased to say I have sold several recycled coiled paper bowls at two Galleries in downtown Reno, Nevada.

Workshops in July At Om Home

Workshop I:
Intro to Mandala Construction
July 10, 2010 (2-3:30 PM)

Workshop II: Advanced Mandala Construction and Meditation
July 17, 2010 (2-3:30 PM)

The workshops will use the principles of symmetry, color, and design to build a personal Mandala with a historic view of Mandalas around the world. At the conclusion of the workshops participants will have a completed Mandala to take home. The advanced Mandala construction workshop will discuss the use of Mandalas in meditation as a simple and effective way to de-stress and achieve relaxation in our busy lives.
Suggested donation: $15.00 each workshop

Workshop III: Recycled Paper
July 24, 2010 (2-4:00 PM)

Recycled paper of all types will be used in an adapted form of traditional basket making technique. Old seed catalogs, phonebooks, and used posters are good sources for making hand formed vessels. The paper is folded and glued following an updated age-old coiling technique. Once the piece is shaped and dried, embellishments such as beads or ribbons can be added for a colorful and eco-friendly object d’art.

Om Home First Annual Art and Artists Group Art Show
July 31, 2010 (1-5 PM)

Om Home will have an exhibit and sale of original art pieces and crafts done in a variety of techniques such as encaustic, photography, watercolor, and mixed media along with objects d'art of recycled materials, painted gourds and cloth art. Free.

Artown festival, July 2010 Presenter

Om Home Art and Artists during the month of July is part of the 15th annual Artown festival, July 2010. The month-long summer arts festival features more than 400 events produced by more than 100 cultural organizations and businesses in locations citywide, with major funding provided by the City of Reno.

Om Home is pleased to present three workshops and a show of various works by the Art and Artists group and others during the 15th Annual Artown festival.
There will be Saturday workshops on the construction and history of Mandalas, and building vessels with recycable materials. (see dates below)
On July 31, Om Home will have an exhibit of original art pieces and crafts in a variety of media and techniques such as encaustic, watercolor and mixed media along with objects d'art of recycled materials, gourd art, quilt art and thread sketching.

Mandalas are known around the world as the 'sacred circle' and are ancient in concept and have been used for meditation and adorning many gathering places throughout the millennium. Mandalas are a simple and effective way to de-stress and achieve relaxation in our busy lives.
